Planning to Install Wood Floors? 3 Reasons To Choose Walnut Hardwood

Home & Garden Blog

When you are planning to install new floors in your home, there are many options to consider. If you have chosen to go with a hardwood, the next decision is which type of wood to go with. One great option is walnut hardwood flooring. Walnut offers many benefits to the homeowner. Here are a few of the benefits to choosing hardwood flooring:

Beautiful Appearance

The beauty of walnut hardwood is one of the first things that homeowners notice about this floor covering. It provides a stylish look to any room that can fit in with any type of interior design. It also works well in any room in the home, from bedrooms to kitchens to the family room. It can be stained almost any shade, and looks equally lovely when in distressed or pristine condition. If you ever intend to sell your home, walnut hardwood floors are often very attractive to buyers.

Ease of Installation

Another key advantage of walnut flooring is the fact that it is relatively easy to install. Most walnut flooring will come in larger pieces, unlike the smaller planks in other types of hardwood flooring. If you are a fan of doing your own home maintenance, installing walnut flooring is a great project to try. You will need to ask the company you are purchasing your hardwood from for the different tools and supplies you will need for the project. You should also get detailed instructions from the manufacturer, and you may even want to ask if an installation video is available so you can see how to install the floor in real time.

Increased Durability

Since hardwood flooring is a significant investment in a home, you want to choose one that is durable and will last for a very long time. Walnut definitely fits that category. It is a harder wood and less likely to become dented or damaged when items fall on it. Walnut is ideal especially for kitchens where pots, pans, and utensils regularly fall on the floor.

After you have installed your walnut floors, it is important that you care for them properly to maintain their integrity. To keep minuscule scratches from occurring, use a dry mop to remove dirt and dust. Also, purchase the correct type of floor cleaner designed for walnut and similar hardwoods. You may also want to place small runners or throw rugs on the floors to keep them in good shape.

Wasted Basement? Renovate It and Rent It

My husband and I have a large basement we've never really used. We started storing items in it, and it seemed like such a waste of a large area of our home. We also have a nephew in college in the area who we knew was paying a high price for an apartment he could barely afford. We came up with the idea of turning our basement into a mini-apartment and offering it to him for less than his current rent. He loved the idea, and the renovation was faster than we imagined it would be. We are all so happy it all worked out, and that we had a great basement to help my nephew through college at the same time. I created this blog to encourage others to use their basement for more than just holding boxes.
