Dealing With Stained Carpets In Your Home? 2 Ways To Restore Them

Home & Garden Blog

Are the carpeted floors in your home stained and dirty? Although you vacuum them regularly, they may no longer have that vibrant color or lush appearance they once had. While stained carpets can easily make a home's interior look less attractive, you do not necessarily have to replace them. In fact, there are more affordable and convenient options worth considering.

Use a Do-It-Yourself Spot Treatment on Bad Stains

As soon as you notice something has spilled, you can quickly take care of the liquid on the floor before it turns into a stain that is too difficult to remove on your own. There are many spot treatment cleansers available, but you can create your own effective spot treatment cleanser in just a few minutes. The ingredients needed include the following:

  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon hydrogen peroxide
  • 10 drops lemon essential oil

Mix each of the ingredients together until you have a thick paste. Apply the paste directly over the stain and allow it to sit on top of the liquid for at least 30 minutes. The baking soda combined with both vinegar and hydrogen peroxide will work to lift the stain out of the carpet. The lemon essential oil leaves a fresh scent on the carpet to help mask the strong scent of the vinegar that can become a bit overwhelming.

The spot treatment is great to use when someone accidentally spills something on the floor. You can make it in larger batches and put it into a squirt container so that you have it available to use when you need it. It is always better to tackle the stains right away because they will only get harder to remove if they sit for an extended period of time.

Bring in the Carpet Professionals to Perform a Thorough Cleansing

While a spot treatment may help solve the problem with new stains, you may still need to get help from the professionals because they have special equipment and cleansers designed to lift even the most difficult stains while also eliminating dirt and dust from your floors. They may start the cleaning process by tackling those tough stains by using high-quality spot treatment products and their own unique techniques.

After they have lifted the stains, they may continue the cleaning process by using a hot steam cleaner throughout the home. The hot steam cleaner is powerful enough to remove dirt, grease and even dust mites from the carpets. The extraction cleanser used during the steam treatment works to eliminate the dirt while removing any odor from the carpets so they will smell fresh and look extremely clean.

Even if your carpeted floors are not looking their best, you probably do not need to replace them. In fact, you can take control of stains by using a homemade spot treatment and getting help from the professionals when the floors need a deep cleaning. For more information, contact professionals like Chem Dry Springfield.

Wasted Basement? Renovate It and Rent It

My husband and I have a large basement we've never really used. We started storing items in it, and it seemed like such a waste of a large area of our home. We also have a nephew in college in the area who we knew was paying a high price for an apartment he could barely afford. We came up with the idea of turning our basement into a mini-apartment and offering it to him for less than his current rent. He loved the idea, and the renovation was faster than we imagined it would be. We are all so happy it all worked out, and that we had a great basement to help my nephew through college at the same time. I created this blog to encourage others to use their basement for more than just holding boxes.
